Lockdown has played out differently for different types of professionals

Thrive – Older pro’s with large networks and institutional knowledge built up over years and who were comfortable on line have done the best. Especially if they were not rapid extroverts but also were in roles where relationship was important as in sales. Also Born digital employees who were already digitally native by the time covid hit and who were mainly on task rather than relationship roles.

Dive- Newbies with no network have struggled especially if they could not project a presence online. It’s tough to build deep relationships or gain informal institutional wisdom remotely. This is especially tough in sakes roles.

Survive – There are some born digital pro’s Who are able to build online relationships and very comfortable with online tools who have also coped well.

We are all going to have to learn how to be adept at being alone for a while yet and to learn how to project an on screen persona that is compelling. Not all can be digitally charismatic but perhaps we need to aim to be more than just a taking head.
