The brain drain shows you which industries are under huge strain due to the digital onslaught? Talent is attracted to opportunity. Long term sustainable profitable growth. The share prices just measure short term sentiment. They should measure long term fundamentals, they don’t. Not in the short run. Over the medium term share options turn into worthless documents. That’s a huge chunk of change for senior execs. Boards seriously out of touch with reality make this worse. Just look at C Suite exits this year alone in traditional media, telecommunications and legacy retail. The average age of execs is rising and many competent Staff are bailing as the music ends. The challenge is in funding sufficient staff addicted to pain to take those roles. And being able to afford them with rapidly declining revenues. So perversely the very people that can fix this have left. Who is next? Financial services is heading for a massive blowout. A combination of fat and sassy leaders bred on easy money who have done very little to build the service and product digital delivery platforms and costs that their clients demand.
